Just because the Sigma 30mm 1.4 Nikon compatible lenses can shoot at f/1.4 does not mean that it is particularly good at it. In all my attempts, the shots came out looking very soft and I must say that I was disappointed with this lens. Now I have been told that when shooting in low light sharpness is not such a big issue but I beg to differ. Bear in mind that that this is just my personal opinion but I prefer a lens that gives me corner to corner sharpness and this one just cannot deliver on that. For the rest it is a pretty decent lens albeit a little overpriced in my opinion. I will give it credit for the sturdy construction but for the rest there are much better lenses available on the market. This lens will probably see the most use from street photographers who do not mind the softness.

I live in Sydney and recently went to view an exhibition by some Tasmanian photographers of Australia’s island state. The capital, Hobart, looks quite nice too. Apart from anything else I know it must be a much quieter and cleaner city than Sydney. I can’t believe it has escaped my attention all these years. I booked my trip for just after Christmas.
